The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is considering postponing the 2021 Oscars from its current February 21 date, Variety reports. A source told the outlet that “It’s likely they’ll be postponed,” although they also cautioned that the details have not been worked out or even formally proposed yet. Academy president David Rubin told the outlet that it was still too soon. “It’s impossible to know what the landscape will be,” he said. “We know we want to celebrate film but we do not know exactly what form it will take.” The Academy has already made eligibility changes to films for next year, such as loosening requirements on a theatrical run. If the postponement does happen, it's unclear how that would further affect eligibility.
