Wop babalu-bop a-wop bam boom! The beloved musical Grease is being turned into a TV series over at HBO Max, according to TV Line. According to a press release, the spinoff is “inspired by” the 1978 movie starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, Grease: Rydell High will likewise be set in the 1950s, when “the Pink Ladies and the T-Birds still rule the school,” featuring “some characters you already know, and a whole lot more you will soon meet.” Adds HBO Max head of original content Sarah Aubrey, "It’s Grease 2.0 but with the same spirit, energy and excitement you immediately think of when you hear any of these iconic songs...This is high school and life in small-town USA told on the scale of a big rock-n-roll musical." The show's musical numbers will include '50s hits as well as original songs. There's no news yet about who will star in the series, but it's expected to debut in 2020.
