American Idol is hitting the road--or rather, the information superhighway. On Friday, the singing competition show announced that auditions will be held for its upcoming season through a first-of-its-kind, virtual nationwide search. Using "custom-built Zoom technology," virtual auditions will kick off August 10 and take place in all 50 states, as well as Washington D.C. In a press release, the show explains, "The kickoff to Season 4 [on ABC] will give hopefuls the chance to showcase their talents from anywhere in America, across any official audition date and face-to-face with an American Idol producer, staying true to its roots by providing aspiring Idols real-time feedback on their journey to being crowned the next American Idol." Auditions are open to anyone between the age of 15 and 28 and are expected to run through September 9. The new season of Idol is expected to premiere on ABC sometime in spring 2021.
