Leonardo DiCaprio has a long track record of supporting environmental causes, including recently donating a large sum of money to help save the Amazon rainforest from destructive fires. So it probably came as a surprise to many--including DiCaprio--when Brazil's president recently accused the actor of "giving money to torch the Amazon." Over the weekend, DiCaprio responded to this false claim on Instagram by writing, “At this time of crisis for the Amazon, I support the people of Brazil working to save their natural and cultural heritage." The back-and-forth came after four members of a Brazilian fire brigade were arrested for allegedly setting fires for the purpose of taking photos so they could solicit donations from the likes of DiCaprio. The New York Times reports that those arrests have since been condemned worldwide.
