TEAM GARY! Take part in the Santa Barbara SB25 (short course) Triathlon to honor Gary Fruin.

This New Year KLITE 101.7 is honoring Gary Fruin’s legacy with the station and the community by creating “Team Gary”, a group of 100 athletes who will compete in this year’s Santa Barbara Sprint Triathlon, August 29th. Funds raised will go to the Santa Barbara Cancer Foundation, and will be distributed to the Ridley Tree Cancer Center.

“Team Gary” athletes will receive training tips online beginning soon, and starting in late May, weekly in-person training with KLITE’s sports reporter and local athletic coach, Dawn Schroeder. Participants will all receive “Team Gary” t-shirts. Athletes are asked to raise or contribute a minimum of $101.70, with 100-percent of proceeds going to the Cancer Foundation.

KLITE invites you to challenge yourself this New Year and help us remember Gary, who gave so much to our community in his 34-years on the air. Gary passed away January 2nd, 2025 of esophageal cancer. Let’s celebrate his voice and help others going through treatment.
